Hello everyone, after I successfully fixed the A/C with all the vacuum hoses etc my A/C unexpectedly cut out after 3 weeks. It was blowing (not terribly great, only worked on normal and if set on high would not work but would blow out lots of dirt particles from somewhere, didn't see anything in the heaterbox from the inside of the car though.) but nice and cold and then suddenly nothing. My R12 is still surprisingly high so I'm not low on refrigerant, I replaced the A/C relay on the inside firewall thinking that was the issue and yet fuses are still being blown. I unplugged the fan and left the compressor plugged in- still blew a fuse. Plugged the blower motor back in and unplugged the compressor- and of course, still a blown fuse. Am I missing any steps? I did not touch ANY wiring during my whole A/C renovation with the vacuum hoses, so I don't believe I pinched any wires. I'm at a loss of what I might be missing, any help would be sincerely appreciated; driving in Texas 100+ degree heat is only bearable with the windows down!
Thanks for the response, good news is that I don't have an idle solenoid; I swapped out my ECM carb for a 1980 since I no longer have a computer system. I will definitely look at the thermostatic switch sometime tomorrow. Is that the one that looks like a two pronged plug?
2 more things to check are the thermostatic switch on the evaporator inlet and the idle solenoid on the carburetor.
I checked the switch (unplugged it from the A/C line) and it still blew a fuse. I’m at a loss at what to do next, I could only think it might be a short somewhere in the circuit but that may be an issue that my local mechanic can sort out.
