Default ’69 BB, #7 Plug Wire Routing Question

The #7 plug wire is lightly chafing against the reverse (Backdrive) cable lever on the steering column. Are the wires not routed correctly? The boot is rotated so it’s angled forward but that doesn’t help much. I’d like to maintain a factory appearance and not have to resort to a “zip tie” solution.

Are 1 and 7 coming out of the bottom hole in the grommet, 7 to to the right, and 5 and 3 out of the top, 3 to the right?
Also note that the right side has a wire separator, I dont know if the left side has one.

This is order the wires come out of the four holes in the shield box grommet as viewed in the second photo from the first post:
UL = #1, UR = #3
LL = #5, LR = #7
I see how this differs from the AIM page in the link you posted. I might give that a try and see if it makes a difference.

There are separators on both sides, spot welded to the rocker covers which are repops but I believe are factory correct.

I didn't think that lever on the column on mine was bent out that far, might be just the angle the pic was taken

You are missing the wire loom that connects to the valve cover.I see the metal bracket but not the plastic loom.

You should have one on the passenger side too.

I see what looks like the throttle cable over the wires.

Now that I'm not om my 13" laptop I see it.

Take the top off the distributor shield and see if you pull some of the slack into the housing.

I thought the same thing. I have the brake booster in the way of a clear view... the lever does project outward from the firewall at an angle but maybe not quite as much as the OP shows.

I think rerouting the accelerator cable under the spark wires and pulling as much extra wire for #7 out of the distributor shielding are the first steps. After that, see if the #8 wire is any longer to trade positions.

I just looked at my 69. Your lever is bent and is causing the interference with the plug wire.
