hello I have a probleem with my corvette c3 1974 350
the engine don"t want to turn of {I had the problem 1 mounth ago but it was for one time. I have checked the switch that was ok and the rod from the key was also good . When I turn off the ignition I get stil 7volt on my distribitor.
as I pull the fuse from the gauge""s the problem goes away. I have been looking for days now. please can some one help me !!!
{some gauge have I replaced }
new altenator
new starter
compleete new eninge.
Check your alternator wiring. I am unaware of how you have wired your alternator ( I see where you added a new one) or if it is a standard 3 wire. I am also not aware if your 74 has a "charge" lamp but a standard GM alternator can continue to provide voltage to the ignition system even after the key has been turned off.
There are modifications that can be made (a diode added) but if your electrical system is stock or close to it you shouldn't have too.
Do you still have the stock points distributor or has it been changed to something like a HEI? You need to look over the wiring. A 1974 would have come with points originally and should have 2 wires feeding the coil. One wire goes into the driver's side body/fuse box connector and the other comes from the starter. If the wires have been changed up because someone wired a new distributor in or changed the starter and it was missing the points terminal on the solenoid you can be getting power all the time.

In the General C-3 section under 68 to 82 diagrams for everyone by Papawana get a '74 schematic.
Is the starter connected correctly?
Also down by the starter there is a BLACK ground wire, is it connected to a starter or bell housing bolt?
Do you have a stick or auto transmission and do you have 12 volts into and out of the neutral safety switch?
Is the alternator wired up correctly?
First thing is to check that the battery connections are clean and tight.
there are 2 purple wires at the terminale at the block site. And to at the middel. Its automatic th400
the starter is grounded wif a Braket on the block

From the factory, a Yellow wire connected to the 'R' terminal on the starter solenoid.
You have HEI so you don't need that wire, remove it and tape the end.
Jumper from the TOP terminal on the solenoid to the 'S' terminal and see if the starter turns on.
With the key in "START" see if you have 12 volts on the purple wire at the starter solenoid.
If not, check the neutral safety switch.
