Default POR-15 Application Question

I just ordered some to use on a parts hauling trailer I am building. I ordered the POR-15 and chassis coat semi gloss black to see how I like the product. Can I apply the chassis coat directly over the dried por-15, while it is still tacky, or do I need to use the primer in between?

I was reading up on it on their website and I believe you apply the chassis coat on a dry surface. Not sure you need the por15 base as I was gonna apply the chassis coat directly. Check out their website.

They do recommend using both. It says the chassis coat is stronger than paint but nowhere near is tough as the por-15. I used the por-15 before and it is like iron. The only problem is the whitening of the surface from sun exposure...which is why i want to try the cassis coat over top. I dropped them an email...so hopefully they will respond before Monday

My recollection was to apply the chassis coat while the POR-15 is still slightly tacky to the touch. Otherwise it needs to be roughed up before final application.

I been using the POR15 products for 3-4 years now and have found the following:

I like to use the Metal ready first to get good adhesion, although if you're using it on surface rust it will work directly.
I have top coated with POR15 - Chassis black semi gloss and gloss while the surface was tacky or dry. If dry then you should either use their primer or scuff the base paint with 600 paper. If you leave it glossy, the top coat will peel off.
I used the POR15 Metal Mask paint and that needs to be stired frequently and applied with a sponge brush.
The best results I had and the procedure I now use is to clean the part, wire brush if necessary, apply Metal Ready for 20 minutes keeping it wet- use a brush to apply, wash with water and dry. If you're in a hurry use a heat gun to dry faster. Apply 1 coat of Black POR15 and top coat with what ever paint you choose while the surface is almost dry to the touch. I prefer to use Eastwood paints for top coating and Seymour Cast Blast instead of the Metal Mask. I'll sometimes use Eastwood clear over the top coat. It will take several hours to complete all this, sometimes you'll have to apply the top coats the next day.

Just make sure you wear gloves while painting. takes a while for the dried paint to wear off your skin. 'specially a cuppla spots on your nose !! :) :)
