Power steering 79 C3
I’ve just replaced the power steering rack. It worked for a while, has now lost all fluid and hard to turn steering wheel.
any ideas before I pull my hair out
First, there is more to it than removing the belt on the PS pump. The power steering valve that lives at the end of the drag link requires pressurized power steering fluid to function properly. You will have sloppy steering at best, and end up with terrible, dangerously loose steering eventually as parts that were never designed to touch end up rubbing together.
I am aware two "correct" ways to convert to manual steering:
1. Buy a steering link intended for a C3 that had manual steering, and convert the Pitman arm as well (this second piece is reproduced, at least). This is what I did in my 80, along with having @GTR1999 build me a new steering box (which is the same for all C3s of any given year, power or manual). Rebuild kits are available for business end of the drag link (aka center link, relay rod, etc.) Here's but one example of this part, on eBay:

2. Pretend you are about to do a Borgeson conversion, but stop after only replacing the power steering valve with the Borgeson drag link adapter, 990002

I'm not sure if you need the manual Pitman arm for this conversion. I used this part (with a complete Borgeson conversion) in my 79, along with the power steering Pitman arm.
You'll likely also need an alignment when you are done. Put in as much caster as you can stand.
