Two things come to mind, over advanced ignition timing or/and a bad starter. A lot of Crossfire guys like to bump up the ignition for increase performance at the expense of slow cranking. A bad starter is also a possibility. I would recommend replacing the stock starter with a PMGR variant. They are not effected by the heat and have plenty of torque to over come over advance timing. A Power master 9100 is a good candidate and it's what I have. A lot of guys like the Delco PG260 starter. However I'm not a fan of that starter because of it's plastic ring gear.
