1979 Corvette driver seat will not fold forward. Do I need to take the seat out and to an upholstery shop or is there a way to fix it in the car? I would like to fix it myself if I can, thanks for any help.
The clamshell seats have a safety lock on them that won't let the seat fold forward and fold you in half if in an accident.
My guess would be that that cam is stuck in the locked position.
If you take the decorative acorn nuts off and take the plastic cover off, you can take a small screwdriver and lift it up.
Then you can fold the seat forward.
Thanks for the info Dave, quick 2 questions. Do you mean take the plastic cover off the back of the seat and when i get to the lock thingy is it on the door side of the seat or the side next to the center console? Thanks again
I mean the plastic covers that cover the hinges, not the back of the seat, Unfortunately, the safety lock is on both hinges. I had trouble with my seat not wanting to fold, but the lock was only stuck on one side. Yours might be both.
Heres what the hinges look like uncovered. The small lever looking thing on the outside of the hinge is what you need to move (If I remember right).
Fortunately the covers you are talking about are not on mine so that makes it easier. I will get right on it when I get home to the car. Thank you very much again for the info Dave
If you have those covers, and want to get them back on, i replaced the original screws that hold on the hinges with bolts. Then i used threaded acorn nuts to hold the covers on. It worked out very nicely and hold the covers on way better
