Default 1977 Speedometer

Just drove the car after I got it running, speedometer is way off slow, I am going to say by 50%. I know the gear on the speedometer is good, though I never looked in at the gear on the output shaft when I had the speedometer cable out to fix a leak.

So is the speedometer bad, what kind of fix am I looking at.

Thank you for your time. Dale,

I would first check the driven gear again and see that it matches your drive train.
***The driven gear for a manual transmission had 2 different part numbers, first and second design***
Here is the chart of what have been installed depending on transmission and axle ratio.
I added the Broadcast Codes to the TH transmissions.

Default Has always confused me

This post resurfaced a nagging question mark in my mind. How can a fixed drive gear mesh with multiple different driven gears? I am sure there is an answer but I just cannot figure that one out. Pardon my ignorance.

Thanks bmotojoe, it is an automatic and I will check the teeth count. This car has had so much bad/no maintenance/repair work/neglect, nothing surprise me anymore on what I find. The last owner started to take the engine apart in 2017 and it sat until I bought it this spring, I guess if people did not do all this bad stuff to cars we would not have anything to work on and save.

Radovette, I am going to go with the worm gear on the output shaft is the same size regardless, the drive gear has to be the same diameter regardless, so it has to be the width/depth of the teeth on the drive gear. Just a guess.
