Hello
I needed to clean the engine compartment. Since then I have a problem with choke, in the sense that I have a fast idle(2500-3000 RPM). Today I observed that there is a chance to forget to plug a tube somewhere. I took a picture with the place where I think that a tube should be, however i was unable to find the respective tube.
Do you know if there suppose to be a tube in there?
Has your ECM been bypassed? That looks like an aftermarket HEI with an adjustable vacuum advance.
When in doubt, plug it, then look for the hose. You should be able to get a box of assorted vacuum port plugs for $5- at any automotive box store. An open vacuum leak may be part of your high-idle problem, but there must be something else that is causing your throttle plates to stay open.
bikespace is correct. wrong distributor for that carb. the ecm will not work like that. best at this point to get rid of the carb and ecm. you could find and install the correct dist just to find the ecm is shot and the carb needs work. you either run all of the ccc system or none of it.
But if the ECM is already bypassed, and you have a 4-pin HEI distributor, you should consider completing the swap and moving to an 80 or earlier Q-Jet, or a Holley or other carb solution.
if the ecm is already bypassed, OR sitting there trying to run but seeing errors because it is getting no inputs from the distributor, the carb is at full rich. it cannot regulate the air fuel ratio so it defaults to a setting that is least likely to damage the engine.
