Default 68 Fiber Optics

I'm putting my 68 back together. With regard to the fiber optics, on the shifter plate there is a lens & 3 fiber optic tubes for the left rear, license plate & right tail light. But there are fiber tubes at all of the headlights also. Where do they show up inside of the car ? Or don't they ?

Hello 76yellow. On my 69 the front console and the trim plate for the fiber optics is at the front of the shifter console. There should be an opening about 1" X 9" for it to fit into. I believe 68 is the same except the trim plate material. Top Flight vendor has some illustration of where everything goes, at least for the 69. Take care.
Looking at your question and not sure if you wondered about the final spot or how they got to that location?
The front front optics are all together and run up the drivers side and thru the lower part of the firewall . In the area of the floor mounted hi/low headlight switch.

Not the best picture but the plate just below the radio holds the lenses for the front lights.

I had that part of the console stored away ! Yes, I see them now.

But I cannot find the optic tubes coming from the front lights inside of the car. I don't find them anywhere in the harnesses ! The 3 for the rear lights are there coming out of the main harness !

Some PO may have pulled them out. The fiber optic cables are wrapped inside the electrical harnesses. Look carefully to see if they just cut them off. The plugs for the headlights have a provision for the FO cable so start there and follow them back.

The clear is for the turn signal, the blue for the low beams and the red for the high beams.

Thanks 69L88....I have a few more questions if you can answer them ! 2 of my FOs are broken off from the headlight plugs. I know I need to get new ferrules but how do I get the old ones out of the plug & how do I crimp the new ones on ? Also on my parking lights I need new boots. I see they have amber lenses for the boots. Do I need those if I have amber bulbs in the parking lights ?

Search the forum for posts on how to repair the FO. There are several that go into a fair amount of detail, complete the part numbers and recommended sources and tips for repair techniques.

As far as I know, the turn signal lamp FO “lens” only come in amber. As the lamp lens is clear, you need amber bulbs.

ZIP products has some of the needed parts for fixing the Fiber optic tubes used on the older Corvettes. If the lens' are not clear a pencil eraser is a good way to clean them off or some very high grit sand paper can polish the lens'. They tend to get hazy after a long time.

So I got some FO repair strand from Corvette Central and the diameter is smaller than the factory strand ! It's even loose in the new ferrules I got. Is there another supplier that has the correct size diameter ?
