Thanks Kansas! It came out but in 6 pieces. It was really brittle. I seem to be at the point to remove the ignition cylinder but the release that I have seen in videos doesn't seem to be visible. Is the 79 different?

Use a flat screwdriver tip aimed into the slotted hole (top of kansas123's pic near arrow) in the retainer opposite of the flat side (bottom of pic).
Thanks 70! It came out but broke apart. Having trouble now with the ignition cylinder removal. I don't see the release that other videos show. Is the release hiding somewhere else?

I figured it out. I will post photo's soon. A plastic thing with copper antlers lifts out and the screw behind it has to be removed. Then the ignition cylinder slides out easily. Putting the antler thing back is the stuff of magicians.

Yes, that plastic thing with the antlers is part of the key buzzer I believe. When the key is in the ignition, places on the key's teeth contact both copper pieces and when the door is opened, the ground is made and the buzzer goes off.

Yes that’s the part. I should replace it but it’s too late now. It’s too risky to reinstall without removing the switch assembly. Dropped it trying to put it back and nearly lost it down the column. An hour later I fished it out but that was just luck. I tried disconnecting the blinker harness but I don’t contort like that anymore. I was close though.😅

Hey Calwldlife, If you are referring to the unremarkable ignition cylinder, then yes. There is a screw that holds it in place. Sneaky little devil. Once removed it will come out easily.

I don't know why the ignition cylinder stuck in on position. Because it was in the on position the key is not removable. I don't think it was the keys fault but it could be to blame. Sorry to here you're on to your 2nd one in 10 years. I assume mine was the original cylinder but who knows. I have only owned this car for a little over a year. It has been one project after another. Patient wife? Very.
