Default Mechanical Fuel Pump

C3 1979, I purchased a new mechanical fuel pump that does not have a return line fitting like the original. Can the return hose be plugged off. What should be done about the return hose Thx.

You'll be better off with the correct fuel pump. I'm not saying you won't still have issues with vapor lock with a return line, but you'll be even more likely to have vapor lock issues without a return line.

You bought the wrong pump. The return line system is very effective in reducing or eliminating the chances of vapor lock issues, especially when running the modern pump gas blends. Rather than hacking your car, buy the right pump.

Be careful here. As others said you want your vent. If this is a NCRS candidate then consider getting your pump rebuilt. If you are getting anything but a NOS AC Delco (if they can even be had anymore) your wasting your money and possibly inviting problems. Do some searches on here about aftermarket mechanical pumps and you’ll find most if not all are junk out of the box. Only a handful of ways to go about it and be relatively sure you wont have problems.
