ask them for the HP curve: Peak HP rpm and peak TQ rpm
or cam specs
or both
Do not buy just based on a HP number

There are people on here who bash dyno software, but for this purpose they are excellent:

Here are 2 fictitious 383s. The stronger one has the best AFR heads and a bigger cam.
Look at the torque curves specifically..
When the cam goes over 230 degrees at .050 there is a large jump in torque and throttle crispness around 3000 rpm that you can really feel.
And there is almost no difference in these two engines below 4800rpm, except for that crispness below 2500.

If you rev it high and often you will like the stronger one.
But under 4800 you will like the other, torquier one.

People Buy HP numbers... but they Drive torque curves.

Buy the best heads you can afford, and buy the cam size that gives you the torque curve you like.

This may have been said in the threads above, but my Opinion is a 550 hp 383 is not going to be very streetable. It's will need to rev to make that much power. Me personally I like big blocks. Easy to get 550hp in a torquey streetable engine. Just my opinion.

Or just build a 434 stroker small block with very good street manners and easy 600 hp .
