Determining Source of Steering Slop

I have owned my '72 for some 30 years, and after ten years or so, I got tired of the loose/sloppy handling, having changed every damn part in the system/suspension...got to the solution was a power RACK, and so I got a welder/fab buddy to weld up some brackets and so I modified the HELL out of the entire steering system, much like some aftermarket setup using the same rack, but I did mine about a year before their setups showed up.....thing that is funny, is my using the exact same rack they did, but mine came from a junkyard and lasted about ten years......thing is the performance.....instead of stock ~3.5 turns L-R it's only ~2.5 turns now....and the response is NOW, not 1/8 of a turn later.....

If you have the steering knuckle with the 2 holes, use the one closest to the ball joint and it will be more responsive with less turns. I never had all the issues some folks have
