Default Traction Control?

Hi everyone, I wasnt sure if anyone else has already done this / posted it, but is it possible / efficient to add traction control to an early model C3? I know some people might ask why, but its really just to add another safety net to protect my vette

Thank you

Anything is possible, but probably much cheaper just to purchase a new C8.

Engineering a sophisticated computer system with sensors and engine controls into a 75 without making it a restomod would be difficult.

As to "safety net", best one is that between your ears.

If you have a new-ish aftermarket EFI system, you can program in a "poor man's traction control" if you add a drive-shaft sensor (timing retard when the drive shaft starts accelerating faster than the engine). You can also "unlock" Holley's slightly better "meh" traction control feature on HP, Dominator, and the new Terminator X ECUs for $500 -also uses a drive shaft sensor, but my understanding is that their feature is designed to do traction control in a launch from a stop / drag racing scenario and still won't operate like a modern OEM ECU.

-The Holley traction control feature also requires you to do the tuning. You're looking at a modern EFI ECU + the medium-end Davis Control box if you want a self-learning / self-tuning traction control box, and again, even that system is mostly focused on from-a-stop / 1/4 mile scenarios and not just all of a sudden hitting a patch of ice or running through a water puddle....

$200 drive shaft sensor, make a mount, +$500 for Holley traction control feature. So $700 to add Holley traction control for an existing Holley EFI system; $200 if you do it yourself. There's some long threads on the Holley EFI forum on how to actually set it up. From what I've seen most people just configure simple timing retard control or go all the way to the DAVIS control box.

Or you can simply purchase a C5, pull the body and install the C3 body. However… You may have a few “minor” modifications to contend with

Hoe can the driveshaft accelerate faster than the engine????

Isn't that type of traction control an acceleration rate thing?

I caught that too. The C2-3's really don't have a good place to put the sensors on the 1/2 shafts - Axels. For the few of us who have installed a C4 Rear suspension we do have the factory parts needed to do it. I for one have thought about it but thats probably as far as its going to get.

Agreed. You would need a way to compare a non-spinning wheel (front) to the spinning wheel (rear). Too much work.

My traction control is my right foot. With my 496 big block, anything over 1/3 throttle will break rear loose in 1st gear. Even more fun when it has been raining out.
