Hey guys, is it normal for a Corvette 1976 steering to shake on rough pavement ? When pavement is even the car is running smoothly, when pavement is bumpy it transfers to my steering wheel... should I be worried?
Is the car a recent purchase?
it's not going to feel like a modern car on any kind of road.
What cold tire pressure are you using?
Have you or anybody checked ball joints, tire rods, idler arm, steering box, steering coupling, control arm bushings, shocks, etc. ?
Is the car a recent purchase? No, I had this car since 2000... I had it restored with original parts and kept it in storage for a couple years... it's not going to feel like a modern car on any kind of road. What cold tire pressure are you using? 35 psi Radial TA
Have you or anybody checked ball joints, tire rods, idler arm, steering box, steering coupling, control arm bushings, shocks, etc. ? The last time I went to a garage with it they told me all was good.... but the car was taken to a GM dealer and for some reason I feel like I should have it inspected by a more experienced mechanic.
I just don't remember the steering transferring every bumps of the pavement to my steering wheel...
It's somewhat of a controversial topic but in my opinion if you want a smoother ride over rough roads, drop your tire pressure to 30 PSI cold, 32 at most. Others site load rating on sidewall pointing to high numbers but you are no where near maximum load when mounted on your car.
