my car is a 4 speed

My emgine

What idle do you set yours at? Even If your car is carbed I am curious to know your idle rpm and vacume is.

My engine. 350, slightly less cam, yet a fair bit of cam for the street.
900 RPM.
I can get a nice smooth idle at 800, 14.5 inches of vacuum.
But found it really didn't come off idle well when that low making hill starts difficult.
Bumping the idle to 900 and about 15 inches of vacuum made hill starts much smoother. And lots of hills around here. Many very steep hill starts off of red lights.
Sounds much better with lower idle. But drivability is important.
FiTech EFI here.
edit, You have more lift, but my cam has more duration.
Probably my cam is a little meaner.
I am running 10-1 compression. 180 runner heads on a 350.
Fairly comparable.

Set the idle where you thing is runs and sounds good. You will be able to hear the sweet spot.

I like to set idle at 900 to 1000 on 4 speeds, easier on the clutch for starting out

I'm running the Pro-Flo 4 XT on my '73. I currently have the idle set at 750. 383 stroker making roughly 423 HP / 457 Ft-lbs. Idle vacuum is at least 12 as reported by my Autometer gauge but the Pro-Flo system reports it about 3 higher so 15.

A little story about idle settings and the Pro-Flo unit: I had to get an inspection on the '73 back in March. I forgot to test my parking brake ahead of time. I ended up stuck in the inspection line before I realized my parking brake wouldn't hold with the transmission in drive. That's one of the checks they do here in Texas. The parking brake was just barely not holding the car from moving. Since the Pro-Flo system can be adjusted with an app on my phone, I started lowering the idle speed until the engine would just barely stay running. Ended up at 575. It was kinda rough but it would idle and the parking brake would hold at that rpm. When it came my turn, the kid doing the inspection commented that I must "have a big cam" in the car. Nope, but thanks for playing. Parking brake held for his inspection. Yay. Before I drove off, I fired up the app again and re-set the idle to 750. Had to pat myself on the back for that one. Now I just need to remember to adjust the parking brake before next year.

I had the same thing happen to me, replaced everything for the parking brake, and it was a pain to get it adjusted to hold... they also check your windshield washer pump, I failed once because of that... I got the Autometor gauge also, they both read the same amount..
