82 crossfire tach filter
I hope I can get some info on what I believe to be a tach filter on my 82 crossfire. I found l that is not hooked up to anything. One side the plastic connector broke off and the other end is not plugged into anything. The tach seems to work fine. Is this filter really needed. It looks like it broke off years ago. Any thoughts?
Make sure it is bolted to manifold ground too.
i had a nasty voltage spike on one of my replacement boards..and i had a filter on! Fried board , bright flash, and smelled bad,I thought i was on fire

It's fairly inexpensive. Replace it.
It dosen't come with new connector housings, you must reuse your originals.
If the connector housing is completely missing at the cut wire end you will need one of these for a secure connection to distributor cap.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
The original filter either failed or someone thought it wasn't needed.
So the engine harness that has the Tachometer wire is not long enough on it's own to reach the TACH cell of the distributor cap.
Whoever thought the filter was faulty or wasn't needed clipped the wire very very close to the connector at the distributor. Same one I thought you may need but I see you have one.
So they used the TEST port pigtail to land the engine harness Tachometer wire to.
What they did was completely bypass the filter doing so.
Same filter you could have purchased from the dealer years ago.

Why spend $30.00+ if there is nothing wrong with the original...
If the original tests good, you just need a F/M series 56 1/4" crimp terminal.
Real simple test but you need a meter, you want approximately 15,000 ohms across both wire leads.
Yes I have tried both the Rodney and the filter Zip Corvette sells, both ohm out the same
