Quick question - installed Van Steel shortened composite spring on my 80-82 rear end - I pushed the spring back against the diff when installed - there's a gap between the spring and the rear bolts - I guess I would think that would not have a gap?
Certainly doesn't seem right. there would be nothing preventing it from rotating until it hit a bolt.
Best to give the guys at Vansteel a call in the morning and see what they say

Back when I bought mine Vansteel sold the same spring for 63(c2) through to 82. The bolt/spacing was different on the 78-79 rears and then the 80-82 batwing but they used one spring for all. I always thought they had different mount spacers to make up for the different thicknesses (widths) but maybe not

yeah, there was no option for different years when I ordered it. And no spacers :/

The spring width installed seems to be 2 1/4" and the diff spacing is expecting 2 1/2" to mount a 2 1/4" spring in a diff for 2 1/2" you need to install the spacers.

Most corvette vendors should have these. I didn't find them on vansteel website.
They install on both sides front / back side of spring.
I'm definitely seeing that in doing some research - I see that alot of composite springs come with a "box" around them making them the required 2.5" width. However, I can already see a problem with the spacer on the back side (facing front) as the 80-82 batwing has a small ledge that runs even with the rear post (single rear bolt) that is not going to allow the rolled end of the spacer to sit properly. It's almost like you need a flat spacer for that side. Perhaps I'll be able to mount both spacers on one side (rear of carrier where the two bolts are), that just manes the spring won't be "centered" between the front and rear bolts.

How tall is that spacer? The other issue I see is if it's too tall in comparison to the thickness of my composite spring and spacer that's in there right now. Current installed height is 2.25"
Don't know why, but it appears you will be making custom spacers for your application to make the V S spring fit properly...
It shouldn't be too difficult once you get all the details and dementions.
