Default Ami missing something?

I feel like I missing trim for the back of my 1973 convertible. Is this normal or am I missing some time of trim on top of my rear compartment area?

I don’t believe you are misanthrope parts. When you close the deck lid all the top mechanism should be covered. I did notice that some very clever person put vinyl on the plastic/composite pieces that are behind the coming up from the floor. Mine were a bit tired so I just painted them. When you have time, I would appreciate a few pictures. Mine are chipped and a little tired, I think the restoration ones are made of a different material. Thanks

Yes, he is correct. The only trim is along the door that holds the quarter trim panel to the door frame. The top is as is. The rear deck hides it all

If you think of corvettes as production kit cars then it all makes sense as to why they feel unfinished And look poorly assembled

Hey Mikey!
Your not missing anything, as mentioned above looks like someone may have covered yours with vinyl. Not a bad idea. Interesting there isn’t a cutout for the shoulder belts ( A85) option. And I don’t see the chrome phillips screw on the side that holds it in place. All 73 convertibles with/without A85 have the cutout. These get pretty beat up over the years and are easily cracked. I’ve resprayed mine a couple times.
BTW , nice to see another red/ dark red (oxblood) interior 73 convertible and with a white soft top too!
That area you show in your photo is in really great shape. Weatherstrip looks brand new. I see the top safety cable is still present as well. i see your missing the compartment door pull vinyl loops and the battery compartment foam seal!

maybe a dumb question here- are some cars vinyl covered vs just plastic?

I swear the trim pieces on my 68 are vinyl. what year did they switch?

Thanks for the pictures. Whoever applied the vinyl to the rear cover pieces did a terrific job, way beyond my skill set. I would bet it was an upholstery shop, there are no wrinkles or creases and they really look great. Enjoy the car and have a fast easy recovery.

The rear quarter trim piece was vinyl covered in 68. But then they were originally molded plastic starting in 69. I believe early on (70) in convertibles with the optional A85 shoulder belts the square opening was crudely cut out by hand. Then later on all the original molded plastic panels had the cutout with or without A85. Now pretty much all the vendors sell the reproduction trim panels with or without the cutout and vinyl covered. Attached is a photo of a repro panel without the belt opening from Corvette Central. The backside looks just like Mikeys’… All original convertible panels in ‘73 were molded plastic plastic… interior color and had the opening for the shoulder belts.
Mikey you can get the rear compartment vinyl
door pull loops from CC and other vendors. 73-75 usually Dark Red is listed as Oxblood.
