I've put my headlight buckets back in my 68. The drivers side seems to be ok open & closed. The passenger side doesn't come up high enough to put the bezel on ! The stop is a 1/4" from hitting the frame so it's not that from keeping it from raising any farther.. I took them both back out and have them laying on a blanket and there is about a 1/4" difference when I measure the two.I can't see any way of adjusting unless it's in the 3 bolts on each side ? What am I missing hear ?
I'm not 100% sure the 68 is like my 72 but if it is then the W shaped bracket that the linkage bolts to is slotted and if you move that forward it increases the "lift" on the lights
The bracket is the one here over on the far left that the 2 springs are connected to.
You need to drop the actuator rod out of the way to get at the middle screw
Make sure the linkage is all straight when you re-tighten the bracket as it can cause it to bind as it folds if it's in crooked
That's what I thought too. I tried that but it didn't seem to work. That bracket on both buckets are as far forward as they can go. I will look at it again ! Thanks
The only other thing that limits the travel is the length of the actuator itself (unscrewing the end-fitting on the vacuum rod) but I'm guessing you tried moving that out as far as possible first and the linkage is going into full locking position
At full lock the two links hit each other where shown. That's controlled by the actuator rod

Then short of something being bent (or wrong parts) there's nothing else limiting the height of the raised unit other than that rear bracket, at least nothing I can think of off the top of my head.
I'll look at my pics to see if anything else jumps out

OK...I'm at my wits end !!!!! I've tried everything to make the right side bucket to raise high enough to put the bezel on. I even switched all of the mechanism from one to the other. Same results ! I cannot see anything wrong with the car itself. All I can figure is it has to be something with with the bracket itself. I hate to waste money on a different one and find out it's not that either. Yes, I've done all of the adjustments to make it raise higher ! It's driving me crazy !!!!!!! I've had a few other people look at them side by side and none of us can explain way or see anything wrong !I'm wide open to more ideas to try before spending more money on a different bracket ! Unfortunately I don't have a spare to try that theory !
I'll through one more wrench at it. The main frame part that the headlight mechanism bolts into changed with the change to the front ends and the main difference is that the tips that go out at the bumper end are different. If I remember correctly to use a later one in an earlier car you needed to add a spacer under the tip to raise it up to where it needed to be. If that's correct, maybe, and it's a big maybe, someone replaced yours with a later style one and didn't put that spacer in and it's sitting too low and causing your problem????
But, if it's just to get the surround on just pull the pin from the actuator and that should let it lift lots high enough to get the surround on (you'll need to prop it up as it won't stay) and then hook the linkage back up when you're done?

OK....I clamped a level across the back the back of both buckets and I can see the difference in the front as in the pics. So obviously the right one (left in the pics) is why it doesn't come up high enough ! That's the 1/4" i need. So obviously there is something wacky with the right one ! Unfortunately I bought the car and tore it apart without ever raising the headlights but I'm guessing it was that way before I tore it apart. It hade to be !!!! So I guess I need a different bracket !!!!
I believe, like everything else, the 68 had a different bracket than the 69-72, but I also think it was a early 68 that had the smaller buckets (???)
Using the later supports on the early cars they added a spacer https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...y-spacers.html
