Sorry if this has been asked before, I rolled through a few different threads and didn't see exactly what I was looking for. I have a 1978 with a 400sbc in it. I just got the engine back from the machine shop and I am getting ready to reassemble and throw it back in. I looked at my engine mounts and I'm not sure if they need to be replaced but I read on here that I should replace them. I found some on Summit but I don't think it is the right size. I measured from the ears of the mount and it is 3.5". Is that normal for C3 or are these mounts for the 400sbc? Also, some said they be solid mounts or polyurethane? I don't really understand this and it's my first time pulling the engine and rebuilding it. So the whole thing is a learning experience. If anyone could drop a link to what I need or just general guidance I would appreciate it. Thank you!
There is a misconception that "Solid" motor mounts will vibrate the entire car including gear shift lever & steering wheel.
Not so. The steering column is not a solid piece of steel. There is a rag joint that dampens vibrations from engine and road.
The shift lever sits on a rubber mount with the tranny cross member. Again, no vibration.
More and more people have switched over to solids for durability. Early SBC mounts had a history of snapping, mostly drivers side.
By all means, feel free to swap out to Moroso Solid Motor Mounts and be done with it. This is a great time to do this with the engine ready to go in.
Add a drop of LocTite Blue to all the fasteners. Good to go.

I second the solid mounts...i kept melting and breaking the poly ones and the rubber will tear as well. You will still need a flexible transmission mount. I use the poly mounts there from energy suspension with no issuues
