I just converted over to an electronic Tach from Corvette Specialties of MD West and it is great. However now I need to plug up the Distributor adaptor when I removed my cable I didn't want to change the distributor at this time. I took the threaded end off the cable and inserted a plastic disc with silicone sealer on the outside edge then reinstalled the threaded end as a cap to ensure there is no oil weeping from the adapter. I then installed a cable tie to hold the adapter in place to ensure it doesn't come loose and fall off (since there will be no cable on it). Does anyone have any other ideas?
DUH! Well that was a major failure and almost cost me the most expensive Italian dinner ever!
Here's the story, Our Corvette club does a Taste of the Town each month and this month was an Italian restaurant about a mile away from my house so being a Corvette event we decided to drive the Vette...Remember I did that mod to the Tach drive on the Distributer...well apparently the drive adapter came loose somehow, even though I had tightened it snug. Short story when I pull into the garage I notice a huge trail of oil up my driveway. After throwing down some kitty litter and thinner I open the hood and there is oil everywhere plus the underside of the car is soaked with oil. Checking the dip stick the level is all the way down to the tip. Good news is the engine didn't even get hot and no scary noises. I cleaned up the top of the engine and immediately went on to Summit Racing and ordered a new FAST HEI Distributor WITHOUT cable Tach drive! It should be here Saturday. Wanna guess what I'm doing today? Hint it involves Simple Green and a bunch of shop towels...LOL!
If the driven gear is in the adapter, why would oil come out of the adapter? I have had the cable off many times to do work on the distributor and there never was a sign of any oil.

My thoughts are that somehow it was leaking at the distributor end around the collar. Likely had been leaking all along but with the cable attached it had enough tension on it that was better sealed however once the cable was off it was loose enough to cause a problem. Either way changing it to the FAST unit cured that plus it’s a 50K which is nice.
I wish someone made an OEM styled electric oil pressure gauge since I would love to ditch the mechanical oil pressure gauge as well.
Additionally I would love to also get rid of the cable driven Speedo with an electric so I can install a GPS drive.

Don't know exactly what you're looking for but, there are A LOT of posts on the C3 forum about converting the mechanical oil pressure gauge to electrical. Here's a sample of one:https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-electric.html

Thank you Sunflower.
Yes, regarding the oil pressure gauge I have done the search that disclosed the options. This revealed the main problem as posted by Race Day:
Couple of problems: Gauges up to and including '71 had green numerals. '72-up were white so the later gauge will stand out. If you swap the old face over it will indicate a bit off as the mechanical gauge was 0-70 PSI and electric 0-80.
If I can’t find another turn key solution my thought would be to bring the new 0-80 PSI gauge to someone like Redline and have them change the lettering from white to green.

I broke my tach cable so many times I converted to electric tach like you did, but I saved all the broken crap. I cut a piece of the cable for the tach side and then cut the housing a bit longer than it and filled the end with black RTV. it lasted quite a while until I got a new MSD dizzy without the tack drive. My MSD sat proud as well and was leaking blow the collar at the manifold with one gasket, so I just added a second and all is well. I like the mechanical oil gauge as its more accurate and it doesnt have a sender that could fail. I use the braided line kit thats available and never had a leak from it
