Does any body have any ideas on half shaft guards or hoops for my 69 vette I plan on using chrome oly half shafts and the 31 spline outer stub axels and a 12 bolt center section but what about the half shaft if it breaks loose your fuked . racevette has the only set up so far I can find. thanks .
Having broke the 1/2 shaft on the driver side at about 50 MPH., it's a disaster.. I replaced the broken shaft. The 1/2 shaft universal at the differential failed. Upon replacement I discovered the universal , when airborne doesn't have the flex ability to complete 1 revolution . The universal binds and breaks. I've seen the collars , but in lieu of installing a C4 rear suspension , I'd opt to a weld chain on the trailing arms to corral the universals into their operational zone . IMHO
DragVette loops mount off the trailing arm capturing the end of the shaft. We broke a solid spicer joint and in turn twisted and broke the loop.
I like Tom’s much better for both strength and location

So now the question is 3 inch chrome oly or 3 1/2 inch from tom's and can you put a 1350 yu joint in Toms 3 1/2 incher or will their 1480 solid clear everything .
That’s a question for Gary, GTR1999 to answer.
He is the expert
I talked with Gary in length today about the rear end set ups in my high hp corvettes a 66 and a 69 and he was very help full and this is my best option in my opinion and his the 1480 is stronger if your going to drag race competitive but for my autocross car and street machine the 1350 set up will work just fine .
I was going to add dealing with Toms diffs I was able to talk quite a bit with Tom's daughter and she put together a package that I liked along with the half shaft hoops and we also talked about her father Tom, all in all it was a very great time dealing with Tom's.
Gary built my rear differential using the 1350’s and I’m sure it will hold together.
I also worked with Gary and he built my Van Steel offset trailing arm assemblies.
I also had Gary rebuild my steering box when I converted from power to manual steering in my 73.
Like you, working with Gary and talking with Tom’s wife and daughter a few years ago was a great experience.
