I'm pulling the body off of my '78 vette frame and would like to detail the frame w/ the usual markings and stencils. I've checked w/ the usual suppliers (Quanta, Zip, etc.) for this and they do not have anything beyond 1972. What have you folks used? TIA!
I'm in a similar boat with my 78 Pace Car. My plan is to buy the basic kit that has the paint and grease pencils from Quanta. I have a database of frame stencils by both four-speed and automatics and will approximate the frame assembly build date. Send your build date to my email address and I can give you a rather close guess as to what the frame stencil was originally. Shim numbers and the markings (inspection notes) are pretty standard throughout the C3 years...not sure if the kit lists those but I can help with that as well.
I should add, several years ago I contacted Quanta and I learned if I give them the frame stencil numbers, then they can stamp out the stencil you can use to paint the frame. It's time they develop a 78 frame stencil kit. In 78, the factory used yellow paint vs. the white their kit includes. Also, the 78 coil tags are green vs. the yellow included in their kit.
Hope this helps!

Interesting…my early (11/78 build) 79 , 78 frame is orange, ?
I suspect the factory (frame assembly plant) was not as **** about what paint to use to stencil frames as we are today!.
Afterall, they were building over 50k Corvette frames to say nothing of other Chevrolet brand orders! Bu I'll include these in my frame stencil survey for 79.
The judging manual states the stencil colors ranged from white in early 78 to yellow to orange-yellow by the end of 79 production. No dates mentioned about the change over.
