Bent rear sway bar link

Been repairing my reverse lamps, installing a switch where there was none and restoring the rear lamp housings cosmetically and to working order.
Before getting out from under the car I also serviced the diff and trans fluids and greeted the Zirk fittings.
Now I found this, what would bend a sway bar link like this ? The bushings look shot, did that do it.
Guess they would permit twisting when worn out like this ???
The trailing arms check goods as do the wheel bearings. No movement that they shouldn’t have either. I don’t drive like I’m trying to break the car either but I know while driving slowly thru road construction it did bottom once. I looked it over but did not see this. Needless to say I’m going to replace the link bushings and two larger sway bar bushings while I’m into it.

when i installed my rear sway bar.. initial drop of jack actually reversed the the 'swing' of the bar and could do that..and the car sits way high sitting on the bar reversed.
they are easily bent for sure and guess something tweaked it..
i used energy usa poly seems to work great if you replace..

Nope, but it’s supposed to be straight back and up not twisted outward.

If you extend the suspension too far and lower it and it does not swing the right way after full droop, the weight of the car can do that.

I didn’t think so but now you’ve got me thinking, ya, gotta crawl back under.
I might have had a brain fart when I put that back together after doing the spring hanger bolts.
Damn.
well the bushing were shot anyway.
I’ve got new end links and bushings on order. I’ll pull it out today to paint the bar so it’ll be ready when it comes in.
Anyway thanks !

Mine is installed correctly ,,, the AIM is fooling you if you look at it it’s showing it in a upright position when in reality it should be folded down to the left more and you can see that if that happened the bend will be on the top … good luck on you project .. 😁

here is a pic just before letting it down after installing bar. In this position it will bind and bend. I couldn't figure out why my car sat so high in rear from putting on rear bar !
i needed to make sure it folded correctly to get it started..

OP, it's hard to see from the angle of you pic but I believe yours are in the correct way. Chances are when the bushings failed it got bound up and bent it out sideways, not a huge issue as long as it didn't hit the tire or anything. Bend it back straight, new bushings and you'll be back in business.

In the first picture in this thread there is a significant amount of bolt thread extending from the nut. When the link was straight could that bolt have hit the frame when that side of the bar went up?

another good point.. i remember making sure the bolts all went from inside to outside..as the aim says.. it looks like you (OP) have bottom correct and top one reversed?
i even splurged on vendor bolts..

I'd have to look but it would have to go up an awful long way to get into the frame, I'd think the trailing arm stock would hit or the shock would bottom out before it got near there, but again I'd have to look

really appearing to have been caused by bushing failure. The bracket did dent the brake line a bit though. I looked over really good to make sure it wouldn’t be a problem.
