Hello all:
The car has 63k miles. I'm rebuilding the front end. I shipped out the "A" arms to van-Steel for rebuild. I would like some some feed back on the the spindles as i'm getting ready to do the spindles/hubs. Is it worth sending them out or just cleaning them up and changing out the bearings. When speaking with Van-Steel they said that 9 of 10 spindles need to be replaced when they inspect for run out. That number is shocking. Just looking for some guidance. This is my first front end rebuild. Like most people, I want to do the job right but, i don't want to spend money I don't need to spend. Any and all guidance is welcome.
Regards,
Eric
Given the low miles it's safe to assume there is nothing wrong with the spindles/hubs, disassemble, clean and paint. I also bet there is nothing wrong with the bearings that would warrant them needing replaced, clean and re-pack with quality grease. Sounds like all you need is a couple new seals and some paint. I use Seymour Cast Blast paint for these items for no other reason than to keep them from flash rusting after cleaning. I use Stainless Steel paint for the caliper bracket.
Mr. D & Peterbuilt:
Thank you both for the advise. I'm going to sandblast & clean everything, re pack the bearings which look great, Head to Napa to get the new rotors and tools need to check the run out. I changed breaks before on our cars but never knew about checking the run out. this was very enlightening.
Again thanks,
Eric
