Hello to all. My question is about the Idle Vent Valve on a 1969 Rochester carburetor, numbers correct. Now the vent (rubber, or whatever) disk is seated and not open at all at idle or any accelerator position. Am I correct in thinking the rubber disk should be slightly open (unseated) at idle and then close on acceleration, off idle?
How is this achieved? By bending the the metal piece that encompasses the rubber valve that the linkage fits in , or the linkage itself? Both parts seem fragile and both appear to be very hard to replace if they were to break. If so how far open should the valve be when just idling or engine shut off. Thanks in advance and hope this makes sense.

Bend the wire to allow the vent to be slightly open at idle. If you can't get it, don't worry about it. The float bowl is vented through 3 other sources and the vent is irrelevant to bowl venting (which is why it was eliminated after 1970).
The vent should be open like this at idle:
If you break the wire, buy or fabricate a new one. It'll take you 7 minutes to make one.
