Default side dash vents - 68

Did the early 68's come without the ability to turn on/off the side vents in the dash? My early 68 (October build) doesnt have the holes pierced for the **** to close the air on/off. on the back the provision is there but sealed shut on both sides and is factory. The vents are there, just no way of closing the vents from the dash like 69+ that I've seen. Is there a list of what some of the early 68's may have had that was different than later cars? I see revisions in the 68 aim in Feb, March, etc...changes made...and I know Ford did this a lot with their cars then. Especially the early mustangs, many many different parts that were modified, improved, or deleted after August of 64. Thank you in advance as always

I have a march built 68 coupe, my vents are as you described. No ability to shut/turn off via the vent in dash.

very cool...what are the last 4 of your vin? Curious how far apart they are. Mine has all of the date stamps on the tach and speedometer and paper decals in place. wish the rest of the car was as complete. My last 4 are 4247

never seen a 68 with adjustable vent **** on either passenger side or drivers side. Passenger side dash was smooth and only the vent was present
starting in 1969 they included a map pocket for passenger side and added adjustable ***** for the vent for drivers side and passenger side
Hope this helps
