There was an article by, I think Motor Trend back in 78 about what performance changes were made to the 220 hp engine to get it to 300 hp so it could accelerate from turn 3 to turn 4 and exit the lap as the checkered flag dropped. It included the 350 350 cam from what the 1970 (L46). Probably changing the timing chain is a must if I go to this extent; and if I'm honing cylinders, then replacing head gaskets a requirement.

So school me on thinner head gaskets and sourcing...as well as timing chain differences.
The L-82 setup will make over 300hp with just headers, duals, and a proper timing curve.....
But you are stuck with the stock exhaust....so freshen it and leave it alone....
It will never make any kind of real power through the pitiful stock exhaust system.

Fyi..
i just used evaporust in heated ultrasonic cleaner..it removes rust in 2 minutes..amazingly faster..140f really speeds it up as well.
It really is amazing..
turnswitch.com has correct ohm speakers

if i had an automatic i may want more power but 3.7 gears and m21 lars timed tuned stock L82 with duals no cat..is very impressive to me keeping 3-5500 rpm when needed. Can always mothball the original or just do the tune and leave stock.

l82 stock below as described above..

Feel free to correspond if you have questions along the way. The car was mechanically neglected when I got it and I have gotten into fixing small things or figuring out what was needed. For example, had the 8 track rebuilt and discovered that the speakers had been changed from 8 ohms to 4 ohms which (maybe reverse) causes heat to the radio circuit board...so now have to restore the speakers to 8 ohms. Picked up the correct rear speaker wiring harness from Lectric Limited (they do great work) and now doing a bench test on the system.

Thank you for the kind offer. My PC was also mechanically neglected. Wiring was so messed up I bought every harness from Lectric Limited, stem to stern. I picked up a Delco cassette radio from a 79 to put in it. Figured most would never notice plus still have all my tapes. Was under the impression that GM speakers are 10 ohms. Maybe little difference between 8 & 10? I had to buy all 4 and got them several years ago from a company called Electro-Tech. Thanks again.
