Default Body set

I set my body back on the frame and was tightening up the body bolts when in noticed that the body was a quarter of an inch to the right (if you measured the gap between the frame and rocker. Not a super big deal but what is the consensus on loosing the bolts and try to split the difference (1/8)

or just leaving it? Thanks, Bill

How many places did you measure? Did you measure the tire to fender lips at all 4 corners?

These cars were not made to the highest QC standard so you need to look at the full picture and decide what is the best position vis a vis body and frame. You will inevitably have to compromise on something, in all liklihood.

Silly question, but did you use the rocker channel holes (one on each side) to line up body onto the frame before bolting down? I went through a full rolling chassis replacement on my '69 vert last year.

Yes I did. One side does look a little off when you look up through the hole.

Then that's likely the issue. You should be able to see right through each hole without any 'offset' frame edges showing through the rocker channel hole. If you haven't bolted the body down, it's pretty easy to correct, but keep an eye on the position of all your shims when you're fidgeting with it. It's quite time consuming to get it right, so take your time, and be careful.

If the body isnt sitting where it should after lining up the holes, it could be another issue, possibly the frame itself is a bit out of whack.... I have a frame off thread where I ran into a similar issue at the very end of the thread. Mine is also about a 1/4 off (I originally thought is was 1/2" but I remeasured and it's actually 1/4"), and I purchased a laser level to measure the frame for straightness. I doubt anyone would notice it, but I did and it drove me bananas. In my case, I used a replacement chassis from another '69, so it is not the frame that the car was born with, which makes it a bit more challenging to get right.

Or like 69L88 said, sadly, these cars were not built to the highest quality control standards, so you may have not have noticed it before. Things can shift and settle over 50+ years of use as well. I've had to learn as I go here (my first frame off) with exceptional guidance from other forum members, but am no expert, and I feel your pain. GL!!!!

Be glad it was not in an accident like mine was. They left the bent frame in, shimmed the body all weird to match it, cut some bumper brackets to fit, and then glued the new nose on crooked to match the crooked frame!

I can't make this stuff up!
