I'm building a 383 to drop in my '69 and I want to choose a full manual valve body with reverse pattern. I'm aiming at street behavior and cruising, no strip. It's using an '88 TPI so torque should be significant but my rear is a Dana 44, so I don't have any expectation of competition. I simply like the full manual drive style.
Anyone have experience with these, can make a recommendation?
First thought; 400 TH with manual reverse valve body. But you must get one that has engine braking in second gear. Else wise, you’ll have serious planetary explosion if you lift in manual second.
There used to be a manual valve body for the 200 4R. IDK if it was reverse. I don’t remember who manufactured it; was in Summit catalogue. Then you’d have a Cruisin’ OD. Although maybe no converter lock up.
