Hello all, well today was A arm bushings removal day. Not a good day. So I got this bushing removal tool that was supposed to make life easier by simply pressing the bushing out. Not so much. In doing so it crushed the ends of the control arms in the process of removing it. So my question is does anyone know the measurements that the arms are supposed to measure at the ends. Cause I will have to open them back up.
Yup tried that too but just put big cut marks in them. Finally got them all out but as I said earlier in doing so the tool pinched the ends all most closed.
Trying to straighten them now will certainly weaken them. There pretty bad.
I would look at the offer posted above about the nice powder coated ones.
Next time, if there is a next time. Torch out the rubbers. (Yes I know it makes a lot of black smoke).
then while still hot knock out the sleeves with a air chisel. Done and no damage. Just some air pollution.
Yes I thought the tool I brought would help prevent that but I was wrong. I have a 73 coupe waiting in the wings to get some work done after the 75 is complete.
I'm probably in the replace them camp, but here you go since you asked. Btw, I did the air chisel getting them out. I think getting the new bushings in was more difficult than getting them out. Disclaimer: These pics are from the driver side of a 66, but should get you in the ballpark I would think.
