I need some help. I've read the Willcox information over and over. I've scanned the forum both general and tech in the past. My issue doesn't come into discussion. My gauge had worked in the past. The sending unit has been tested with multimeter and registered fine. I've pulled one write after another and don't see the results that documents point to.
I get a 3/4 full gauge when none the float to the full position, but I get a 7 or 8 o'clock reading at empty. Sometimes the gauge, at full will struggle to hit 1/4, but since I have the cluster hanging out for testing I have more consistent readings.
See pics. Any ideas? Would a poor connection at a door ajar switch on the drivers side cause this issue? How would I test the actual gauge?
When you disconnect the wires to the gauge, where does the needle sit (7:38)? I'm wondering if the needle just hasn't slipped on the gauge post. You'd have to remove the gauge from the cluster, gently pull the needle, and reseat it on "empty".
I will try that Melting Slicks. Haven't thought of that. I didn't look at the gauge when I disconnected from the gauge. I was checking to see if everything connected properly and if any visual issues with resistor.
I meant 67:72, thank you. Wanted to ask what Melting Slicks level meant? I'm assuming it doesn't get higher? Not really familiar with the levels. Thanks again. I'll let you know what I find out.

No worries, you're not the first. The levels and silly names are set by Corvette Forum. It was a bit of a sore spot for some of us last year when they were changed to the new names. The top level is something like Team Owner or something like that. I've no idea where the breakpoints are for the different names. If you become a CF member, the name goes away, as I recall.
After you try all the posted good suggestions, and if the fuel gauge is still giving you bad readings, run Temporary wires from the Gas Tank sending unit to the gauge. The cables harness from the tail lights and tank sending unit, go through the rear fire wall where there is (or was) a rubber grommet. On my 73 convertible the grommet was toast, our good friend Ernie at Wilcox went into his salvage parts and pulled one off an old harness, and sent it to me (no one sells just the grommet). Ernie was just that type of guy, always willing to help people.
For all those who made recommendations thank you! Looks like repositioning the needle worked. I also found that my ground wire connector was a little faulty and addressed that as well. Since the needle spattering slipped, is there a recommendation for preventing it from slipping in the future? Taking the gauge cluster of is a royal pain.
