Little backstory on my car. It is a stock engine that *allegedly* was fully rebuilt about 15k miles ago, however I doubt it. Documented mileage is 102k. I do know it has a mild cam and the engine is producing 18inHG of vacuum. Stock iron heads, ram horn manifolds, true dual exhaust with no cats, Edelbrock aluminum intake and 1406 carb. Thinking it has a high pressure oil pump since I get 75psi at cold idle and just under 40psi at hot idle. All emissions systems have been removed except PCV. Vacuum advance is hooked up to manifold vacuum. PCV hooked up to front port on carb.
I've tried both recommended PCV valves (V178 & V220) and I do get some oil misting on the top of the PCV line going into the carb. On passenger side valve cover, I'm running a hose to a fitting under the air cleaner. Guessing there's excessive crankcase pressure and blow by judging from the amount of oil leaks I have (rear main, timing cover). Gauging from the engine specs above and what is know about it, would running a different PCV valve be beneficial in relieving some of that pressure? Not in a position to properly rebuild the engine, just looking to get some more miles out of her for now.
Yes, she does burn some oil. No puffs of smoke out the exhaust upon startup (even after a week of sitting) but when hot, she sometimes has a very tiny pop in the exhaust with a small poof of blue smoke that quickly follows.
Your oil leaks could be nothing more than normal oil leaks from a 45 plus year old engine.
compression test first. Then if low at all leak down test.
Your vacuum numbers seem fine so going to a performance engine PCV valve doesn't really sound helpful. If the engine is indeed worn. It is indeed worn.
No bandaid will fix that.
Not sure why you see two Standard Motor Products numbers but OEM shows only one CV774C. Not sure why you would see oil on top of hose unless the hose has a crack.

I see one for the standard engine and one for the high performance (L82). Since the engine is not stock, I didn't know if there would be any advantage of going with the 'high performance' pcv valve. Really do not know the difference between the two.
Agreed and I do not know why I am seeing oil mist. Didn't see any cracks or cuts, but went ahead and replaced the rubber hose with two new clamps. Peered into the valve cover and made sure the baffles are all in tact. There was definitely some oil in the hose and on the bottom of the pcv valve. Sounds like it's time for a compression test, however I have no interest in rebuilding the engine at this point. Likely just keep an eye on everything and tear it down (aka Down the Rabbit Hole) when necessary.
