Just the standard (factory) white nylon has done my cars just fine.

If you are not in a big hurry to get this on the road, you really should order a Magnetic plug. It will come with a plastic washer.

Not sure if older years take a different washer, but on my 1980 these are the best ones to use:

Thanks, that’s what I used last time. I been hearing that the rubber can become disoriented from heat and bolt torque

I change them at each oil change. No issues that way.

Just for discussion.... Metal washers (aluminum or copper) are single-use items only. You can try to crush the he!! out of them to get more than one cycle, but after a while they will all leak.

Tried all of the above but I stll get that drop of oil hanging on the drain bolt.
The only thing that prevents it on my car, is a little teflon wrapped around just the base of the threads along with the nylon washer.

Nope. Not sure about the al ones, but I've reused copper ones many time. Maybe your mating surfaces aren't smooth, etc.??
But, they all work ok, especially if you change it every time.

I use copper washers. They're cheap enough that they really should be one time use, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't reuse them a few times. Never had any problems with leaks. Definitely change it after it's second use, or else you're gonna have to really crank on the drain plug to keep it from seeping.

Next time you drain the oil, gently run a flat file flat across the sealing surface of the pan to remove any nicks or burrs that may be impeding a good seal. Then check the flange of the plug bolt to ensure it is also free of defects. Lastly install a new washer for these newly trued surfaces.

If you re-use a metal washer...and it seals....fine. But, odds are that you will have to tighten it more and more to get it to seal. Where is the benefit for the cost of a piddly washer? Change it out when you should, whether plastic or metal.

my bubba act is to use thread sealer on last threads at bolt head.
keeps from over tightening and holds bolt from vibration loosening
