Default Side yoke coming out

Hello, changed the tie rod ends and before I got a chance to do an alignment, got up to a higher speed than I should’ve and heard a pound clunk/bang in the rear diff/axle somewhere.
Lifted the rear end to find the left side yoke coming out of the diff. The other side is good. I’m assuming this was the result of the loud bang.
From what I understand the clip probably got broken off inside the diff.

Anyone had experience with this?

1. Is it possible to take the diff cover off without dropping the diff and searching for the clip pieces?
2. Would I be able to reinstall the new clip without dropping the diff?
3. Any chance the side yoke is still good or go ahead and get a new one?
4. Get this fixed before getting the alignment right?

this is the pic..

I think i would drop dif and inspect first and assessment.
not sure if clip was noise or not but it may chewed it up.
this is what i learned.

Anyone had experience with this?
Yes, every day

1. Is it possible to take the diff cover off without dropping the diff and searching for the clip pieces? yes but it's not the best way to do it, remove the diff. A snap ring coming off doesn't usually cause a bang noise.

2. Would I be able to reinstall the new clip without dropping the diff? If you go to the trouble of pulling the cover in the car. Snap rings don't just fall off. The axle may wear down to the ring and pop it off or someone may not have installed it correctly.

3. Any chance the side yoke is still good or go ahead and get a new one? You need to see what caused the problem before you get parts. Then what parts do you get- new or rebuilt and there's issues with both today.

4. Get this fixed before getting the alignment right? Yes

Looking at your photos I can clearly see a diff rebuild in your very near future.
No, you are not simply going to put a clip back on.
This looks very bad.
