Can somebody body the "width" of the Automatic Stubs on the Frame?
"measure the width" that is......... so I can compare them to the width of the "stubs" from my Manual Crossmember that remain on my frame? I reckon depending on whether or not I can easily insert a modified aftermarket (with the exhaust pass-under) will determine which way I go on replacing my ugly modified pass-under crossmember
DorianC3, Changing from a stock 4 speed crossover to a OEM removable crossmember is not a difficult job if you have the body off the frame. I made the change because I wanted a stock looking Crossover. At the same time I did the seam welds and enforcement per the Chevrolet Performance Manuel.
I don't have a before picture just the pictures after I removed the 4 speed crossover and did the change over.
where did you purchase the upper frame pieces for the conversion? The gray pieces.
The crossmember mounting bracket was from a donor frame as well as the gusset welded to the frame kick up. I think if you go to the wanted to buy section and post what your looking for I’m sure someone has an old frame laying around they would be willing to work we you.

Could I trouble you to measure the length (width?) of the automatic-stub that is welded onto the frame? I want to compare to my remaining manual-stubs to see if I can insert an aftemarket unit within.
Good thing I still had the car on the lift. There’s no easy way to get that measurement while the body is on the frame. I was able to get a good dimension using calipers. The width across is 3 5/16” and the plate thickness is right at .110. Hope that is the information your were asking for. If you had waited till tomorrow it were be a little late. The car was just taken of the lift I running it thru inspection tomorrow.
Many thanks! Now I can compare to my manual "stubs".

Is there anything special about the HORIZONTAL automatic crossmember bolts? Or can I just go get some Grade-8s at the local hardware store? I am about to go modify my crossmember again.

Very nice!
Another vote for G-Force member. The ad says to 80 only. However, if you run true dual exhaust it fits perfect in an 82, direct bolt in member. I went that route and it rocks.

I made my own pass-under removable crossmember. I considered buying a bowtie overdrives automatic crossmember, but the day I called them they didn't have any and didn't have boxes to ship any if they did have some. So I started making my own.
It took me forever and it was entertaining. I *think* it would have been easier to buy a Bowtie Overdrives crossmember and modify the outboard ends ..... anyway, you can see it here and the whole story. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1607192917

Can this be done ? I will be having the body off of the frame.
