Default 1970 Gas Cap Mod

I did a mod on a Gas Cap kit from Tank's Inc.

I got the kit from Tank's Inc.
https://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/p...rod/prd471.htm (got it from Summit)
And a Tanks Inc. Fuel Tank Filler Neck Hoses GH-2
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/TNK-GH-2
And a 2 inch ring from Tractor Supply

I had to grind down the inside of the ring a little.
I also had to grind some to the bottom outside of the hose so that would go into the gas tank filler.

It worked well and no more splashes and no more watching the tank level. The gas stopped when it was full. It has a trap door for the gas to go through the cap.

Well, tank you very much for sharing! (sorry, couldn’t resist)

Seriously, looks cool, and since having this style of cap on two of my newer vehicles, I hate having to find a place to set the cap for my ‘71 when fueling up.

Nice mod!

I put one of those flapper top caps on my 77 years ago. The only mod I did was to bash out the factory flapper that is just below the cap. But I think that started with the "Unleaded Fuel Only" cars.
with the factory flapper in place it took skill to line up the nozzle and sometimes didn't want to come back out nicely. Didn't take much to bash it and remove the factory fliper.
Been on there for about 30 years. Nice not having to remove a cap and find a place to set it down.

The tube from the kit was smaller than the gas filler tube.
I did not want to drop it in the tank, so I got a ring and grind the inside so that it would go over the tube from the kit.
That stopped it from falling in.
I also bought the gas tube (Rubber) with it.
It was an 2" ID but it did not go into the filler tube. It was just a little to wide.
I cut down the rubber, so it was about 2 inches long.
I used my grinder to make the lower narrow at the bottom 1 inch. I left the top inch to the original width.
That allowed the bottom to go into the gas fille tube, but only the bottom inch.
Worked for me.

I did that mod as well- wanted a sealed cap- as I am running FI and have a real vent/rollover piece in place.

I got one of these- some dealer selling race/sprint car parts- can't remember who.

Almost a perfect fit- had it welded to the filler/neck piece

Here it is on the car- has the drain and works WAY better than GM's rubber piece. powdercoated it after it was welded. Tanks Cap (mines actually of a 2016 Ford Mustang) fit perfect

here's the custom cap- off a Challenger. Had the V12 emblem made up

cap came off this car-

Hello Richard454,
Do you know the width of the part that went into the tube that you show in the picture?
I found the part, but it comes in two sizes. 2 1/4 and 2 1/2. The inside ID of the filler is 2 inches.
Did you modify the part to get it to fit?
