Default Kickdown function

Hello.
I have a C3 1968 327 automatic. Can someone explain with certainty how the kickdown works on this one. I have a vacuum pipe down to the gearbox. Is this the only control of kickdown? On my gearbox there is a switch with a wire that goes into the car but is not connected. I suspect that my gearbox is newer....was a switch used in addition to the vacuum on later gearboxes?

Welcome to the Forum. First off, that vacuum pipe has nothing to do with the kickdown......that goes to the vacuum modulator. If you're shifting OK (other than kickdown), then it's working OK. The switch with the disconnected wire is your problem. It controls your kickdown. Connect it, and make sure it is activated by pressing it in at the gas pedal when you fully depress it.

Hello and thanks for the good answer. There is no switch inside my car just wire... is the switch on the gas pedal? Have to build this back again. If it's just a wire, I think this is plus down to the gearbox above the switch in the car...

See this thread, pic on post #2. The switch attaches to the gas pedal bracket https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...n-problem.html.
If yours is missing, You'll need to purchase a new one.....https://www.zip-corvette.com/69-77-t...wn-switch.html

Start reading and reading, the switch is one of the worst things to work on, unless you have a small rabbit size robot. Some guys remove the drivers seat, others were contortionist in a circus and the job is simple. If you can live without the kick down switch, so be it. Welcome to the Forum

Hello. I have a 68 C3 327 automatic. The cooling system gets a lot of pressure when the engine is cold. Heats up very quickly but does not boil. It's fine to drive a trip with a lot of pressure. If I release the pressure when the engine is warm and put the lid on, the pressure does not return. Before cold start. Shouldn't be like this. Desperately need advice here.
