We are starting to replace the interior of our 78.
We intend on using a hush mat type product under the carpet and behind the dash.
My question is, is hush mat good enough under the carpet or do we need to install another underlayment under the carpet? Thanks
I am in the middle of putting the sound/thermal barrier down, and plan on putting the original padding back in over it. Not sure how it will fit, but the rear compartment should be OK on the flat surfaces as the barrier (Dynamat) isn’t very thick.
I was told the original padding were date stamped? Not sure this is true, can’t find it on mine, but will look again.
Going to put the original carpet back down, as it looks good after a thorough cleaning with only a wear spot under the clutch that is hidden by the floor mat.
For myproject....any mat/insulation thicker than 3/8" caused problems in corners...I actually removed the jute backing because the new mat/insulation is so efficient....but I used HVAC wrap/sound deadener which is twice the thickness of dynamat/hushmat....
I'm doing a 78. The barrier I used is from B-Quiet and is thin. 1/16th thick or so. Standard thickness jute over that. Forming it around the rear wheelwells is not fun. Padding in the front is dense. Not so dense or thick under the seats. Original style firewall pad. Takes a fair bit of contact cement and patience to fit wheel wells.
