I just installed a Corvette Central Dual exhaust in the 76 L82. I went with the standard mufflers. It went together very well. I was considering adding an H-pipe behind the transmission crossmember. The sound is a little on the quiet side, but this is a short road trip car so that is fine with the wife. At 2700 RPM, (64mph) the sound changes to a more rowdy muscle car sound. It's a great sound except several hours of it crackling will get old on a road trip unless i keep it under 63mph.
My question is this. What change in sound does the H-pipe make? Will it smooth out the sound, or get rowdier? Will it get quieter or louder over all?
Who has done this and what are you experiences?
Adding the H-pipe effectively doubles the frequency of the exhaust note. Essentially it gets quieter and more mellow, and that drone at RPM should disappear. Without the H-pipe, you essentially have two obnoxious little 4-cylinders.
