Ok, here we go. Wiper motor stopped working. Trying to see if its the 1yr old switch for low high and push wash, or wiring, or wiper motor. Since I was out and it was sunny I only noticed it happened because I tried to clean the dust off with it. So carry on , about 10 minutes later my rpms drop from 800 to 500 while I'm at a light. Its a manual so in neutral. So I kinda knew my A/C clutch turned on because thats how much that thing robs the motor. I just converted it to the new gas with the kit, so I knew it drops the rpm that much because Im waiting for the solenoid to advance the throttle when it turns on. So I pull over and unplug the A/C clutch positive and sure enough it turns off. Of course. But the console switch is in the off position, and the clutch wire stays energized in off, max/normal a/c, bi level, then off on the rest. So all normal except in off spot. So baffled with that. Then move to the wiper motor. In off position the 2 of the three wires are 12v, the black ground, and the other black wire plug is also 12v?, if I unplug that one, the a/c clutch wire works correctly and turns off in off spot. I had it unplugged with a test light on it when I pulled the black on the motor, out it went. Then the 3 plug only had 12v on one wire, the middle one. Now the real weird. Wiper switch off. the entire body of the wiper motor, meaning the metal casing has 12v. If I unplug both the 3 way and single black it drops its charge. lol. What the heck why is it charged. Also after both plugs are off, The single black drops its 12v and I can plug it back in, and the a/c wire continues to function right. Put 3 way back on, the single black again becomes charged and the a/c clutch wire energizes again ???? Thinking either the wiper motor is grounding inside some how, or the 3 way plug is some how become wrong. I need a wire diagram. I get so confused with that stuff. I have a c3 manual but the wiper diagram is general across the board and the colors and configurations don't match my 73 coupe L82. If anyone has one, much appreciated. For now Im leaving the 3 way unplugged so the A/C works correct, its summer. But thinking I may need a wiper motor, or some wiring assistance. Thanks for any help
Ok, progress. I was working with the key on, had shut it off then when I went to turn back on I reached threw the roof and turned it too far, but it didn't turn over. I recently put a new starter in, I had got rid of the old crappy skinny one, and went back to the original giant one. Spins way faster, but anyway the ground to the rear of the starter barely reached the nut. should have lengthened it , but anyway it came off an was touching the positive post. Thankfully no melt outs found so far. I repaired it with a few inches extra, put it together and now both the wiper motor and the a/c work correctly. So I guess there all connected to that ground. But, when I went to start it, the starter didn't fire???? Checked wires and power was making to the signal wire, ground good. So decided to do the old screw driver from positive to signal wire, and it cranked. Went back to key, it now works. Turned it on and of several times, seems ok. Why didnt if fire before I jump cranked it, now it does?
Well, seems to be fixed. Starter is still working good. I assume the heater fan is on the same ground as well, because the motor had been real slow. so I ordered a new one, hasnt come yet. BUt was trying the a/c again to see if it still shuts off in the off spot. It does, but the fan also started working again. Lol. oh well, just gonna live with it until it goes, save the new one til then. Looks like I got this one figured out.
