I just ran into this two days ago:
1)had to pull driver side up by hand and stuff something squishy to hold it open.
2)Then use a light and locate the cross over cable and pull it straight out.
I can make a video on how.
I did not have fun with the experience thinking of making emergency pull cables.

I just ordered a new cable that spans the hood to the pass latch. Got 1 strand of the wire snapped so far; consider myself lucky I get this opporturnity to avoid your situation. Everyone else take heed.....

Or you can go to walmart and buy a pack of steel leaders for fishing, generally a few bucks for 4 ...the clevis at one end makes connecting them easy. Also, couple times a year I use a light oil and run some down the cables, the latches and etc...and when I open the hood I pull the handle gently so as to not over stress the cables....
