Default Power steering cap leak

Has anyone else been through multiple power steering caps to finally find one that doesnt leak? My 79 has a parts store replacement pump, and parts store replacement cap (about the 5th one over the years). In the almost 18 years I've had my car I dont think the power steering has ever not leaked. It looks like this is the last leak to solve 🤞🤞. What have yall done to solve power steering cap leaks?

that cap fits on the factory power steering pump? when I put that number into google it looks like a totally different cap than what came on our 79's.

Are you sure it's not overfilled? Should have a Cold line on the bottom of the cap stick.

I wish it were that simple! I think I'm going to try the GM part number listed and see what that gets me

You must have a 1984 and up P/S pump reservoir. According to the google machine, that part number fits 1984 to 2002.

I bought my '76 new & it's still original.
Maybe the only thing that hasn't leaked in the P/S system is the cap...

Try to find a 8 x 11 sheet of cork that is made for automotive. I found a sheet made by FelPro about 1/8" thick for making gaskets.
Somehow trace out the caps inside diameter, cut out with scissors and slip your new the cork gasket over the upside down cap and dipstick on your workbench.
Work the cork until you have a good fit. I may have RTV on it too. The cork stopped my leaky cap and now the cap fits super tight.

Do you have fluid around the center vent hole?

center vent hole? On the cap? I wasnt aware that there's a center vent hole. The fluid is definitely running from the top of the reservoir on down.

My 78 service manual addresses the problem.
"check oil level. If leakage persists with the level right and cap tight, replace the cap"
I have the old regular cap without any extra gaskets and no leaks.
Edit: Do have the hole in the bottom of the tube for which MelWff speaks. .

check for aeration of the fluid, meaning air bubbles or foam in the reservoir. This will cause fluid to push out of the reservoir via the cap. If this is the case, look for a leak on the return line.

Did you look at the bottom of the tube that goes into the fluid? There should be a hole going up the stem to the cap top.
