82 Transmission Problems
I have an 82 that has developed an interesting transmission problem. I think it needs a new one but wondering if anyone has had the same experience. First, when the auto shifts, it is a pretty hard shift, not smooth at all. This has been going on since I've owned the car (2 years) so I don't know if that's an issue or not. But recently, when I move from part to shift, the entire car flexes, almost as if the drive shaft is not meeting up with the gearbox exactly straight, and then when it engages into drive it feels as if the two snap together and the car snaps into place, almost as if flexing your elbow a bit and then stretching it out all the way to snap it level.

If the physical car moves while shifting with the brake on.....most likely the rear trailing arm bushings are out of it......
Somebody probably put a shift kit in this car....you want firm shifts, not smooth ones....it is a "sports car"....

Possibly. I'll have to assess. The car is at our vacation home and thus won't be able to check on it again for a few weeks. I was told a while ago that my rear bushings needed to be replaced so that may very well be the cause of the issues.

Transmission problem
The 80 to 82, especially the 82 shifts hard from Park/reverse into drive. It also the rear end will squat. I have an 82 CE and it has been doing this since new. It is just part of the nature of these model Corvettes.
