Agreed these Electro-tech speakers are good products. I installed their dash speakers in my '72 and am looking to get the '67 speaker. Unfortunately they've been out of stock on both speakers for quite a few months now, so perhaps contacting them for ETA may be in order.
I don't know what the speaker impedance is for an 81 C3 (are they the original speakers? does it have the original radio?). If you radio head needs 10 ohm speakers (like earlier C3's), 8 ohm units will do. DO NOT replace with less than 8 ohm units or you will risk frying the output amp section when you turn up the volume.
some Hertz 6x9 in the rear with boxes, and a Kenwood excelon amp to the stock head. All recommended by the local audio shop. It turned out very and I’m happy with it. Speakers are nice for the price point.
I did some upgrade but there was no way to get decent sound using stock setup. I did upgrade speakers and added this self amplifed sub in the rear up against rear wall and it would great.
I did this setup to my 1980 and am pretty happy with it. I went with all Kicker on the system. Sounds awesome. Proud of this set up. Left enough room for T Tops. Also this enclosure kind of quiets the droning of my Flowmasters at 2500 to 3000 rpms. Not much but, it does muffle the sound a little.
For some reason this pic becomes blurry when I upload it to forum. Switched everything to LED and also upgraded alternator. Cut some holes out in kick panel and put these kickers. Replaced ash tray with this little device my son made from PLA plastic. The right obviously is a phone charger, the left is a button I use to raise my power antenna, since I upgraded to a stereo with blue tooth and phone mic. The new stereos don't come with a remote antenna wire. I didn't use radio to amp wire because this radio when it is turned off, has a delay. For some reason it doesn't work well with antenna because it goes down then back up, then down again.
Keep in mind you want to have enough watts to listen to your stereo when you are cruising at 65 to 75 mph with T tops off. Not going to get decent sound without an amplifier.
Nice set ups you guys have.... Honestly though, all I want is a dcent replacement set. Mine are 41 years old and I think the left front is blown... its very distorted while the others actually are fairly clear considering their age.... I havent pulled one out yet, but Im still not 100% if theyre 4 or 8 ohms...
