The headlight door warning switch has broken at the bolt and fallen off the front housing link. I am assuming this has some type motion activated switch inside to go on and off properly as the door is moving and needs to be oriented a certain direction when installed?? How do I know which "way is up"? Thanks
I'll guess there's probably more of these plastic switches broken off than there are still working. Honestly it's a poor design.
The switch is simple, it is a normally closed switch that's wired with power to the headlights so when the lights are turned on, the light on the dash comes on and when the headlight is all the way up the switch gets depressed and breaks the circuit letting the dash light go out.
The switch is also indexed so it can only be installed in one orientation
I've broken so many of these cheap plastic $$$ switches that I simply deactivated them.. really wish there was a "more durable" version or after market DIY upgrade.
