Happy Father’s Day first of all, I checked the cylinders where I left oil, and most still same but one has no oil left so safe to say it is passing the rings, either way to be safe I want to have the pistons cleaned and minimum have new rings and bearings installed as the cylinders do not look like there have any problems, along with the head work and then I will reassemble, question is should I have the car taken to garage and let them do this without pulling the short block or remove and take to shop?

at this point, pull it.
you'll need to do hone, seals, measure, etc.
sorry but do it right

almost out, pulling this weekend I have a reputable builder but he is busy and told me to call him mid July, all being said to get block and heads checked, and if sound get engine refreshed with new rings bearing head redone engine cleaned and repainted what should I be looking at cost? I am doing it regardless refresh or if needed rebuilt just curios, by look of pistons and cylinders should not have to change them

can't even guess because could be real cheap or real expensive.
ideally, a deglaze hone, drill, covers the cyl's.
some plastigauge covers the bearings.
when you start magnafluxing block, regrind balance polish crank, linehone caps, resize bigends, cost goes up.

a good look at everything will tell the story.

engine and trans out which has same number as vin, I see it has original clutch and parts so that is on the list also to get flywheel resurfaced and will start removal of radiator support and surrounding area for sandblasting and painting

Now can replace all insulation and cleanup

update engine at builder, found broken ring on 1 piston and it chipped that piston so having new pistons installed bearings, block cleaned crank polished and decided to get a little more hp having new cam lifters springs rods installed. New valves etc not having decked to retain #s matching also had exhaust manifolds sandblasted and ceramic coated all other parts stripped of paint and crud painted them myself, radiator being recored with original tanks and rails

Block disassembled

Epoxy primer after

Chassis Black frame on painting

Parts painted

Its good to keep ot as one thread as people who contributed or followed along can track your progress. You can have a moderator change the title if yyou want to something like "427 problems and solutions" or whatever you like.

Did you keep the stock compression ratio and camshaft?
You should paint those black ARP bolts while you can as they will turn to rust in a few months.......I always use stainless everywhere for this reason......
Post dyno results!

camshaft change attached, new lifters push rods springs and cam bearings, do you mean the ones on the timing cover? The head bolts I cleaned up and restored with heat and oil to keep the originality.

Also had Lars rebuild the Rochester to accommodate the cam change. thanks all for the suggestion
