Default 74 Wiper Motor Ground

There are many threads regarding 68-72 wiper motors, but seemingly few that directly reference 74+. I have watched the Willcox videos and am in the process of troubleshooting the wiper motor that is currently not functioning on my 74. With ignition turned to RUN and when the wiper switch is turned to low, I hear a click and some smoke comes out from the motor. I have the wiper motor off the car and will be bench testing it. I have verified 12v to the yellow power wire and the wiper motor/blower motor ground wire coming from the engine harness is properly grounded to the bell housing.

I have looked through the AIM and must be missing where the wiper motor mounting and wiring diagram is. Mainly, I am looking to see if the spade terminal for the ground wire is in its correct place before I proceed with bench testing the motor.

The single black ground wire currently attaches to the spade terminal that is connected to the copper ground strap. Is this correct?

Side shot. IMO, this just doesn't appear to be the correct location for the spade terminal.

From another thread that references the 1974 wiper motor wiring. This shows the spade terminal for the ground wire connecting to a different location on the body of the motor.

That looks correct to me, case ground is case ground...
The reason for that thin brass piece is some of these wiper motors were mounted to metal bodied cars/trucks so a separate ground lug and wire was not needed.

The wiper motor failed the bench test so after checking all grounds and for continuity, I went ahead and picked up a new motor from O'Reilly today and I'm back in business. Everything is working in the wiper circuit correctly and as it should!
